Paraphrasing Practice
Using the season appropriate story "The Gift of the Magi"
Today, I’ve got an activity to use with your students to give them some practice in paraphrasing using the classic O. Henry story “The Gift of the Magi.” It focuses on the opening three paragraphs of the story, so they don’t need to read the whole thing—but maybe it will inspire them to!
I would encourage you to discuss paraphrasing with your students before doing this activity if you haven’t done much of it this year. You can guide your class through it, or you can post the link for your students and have them work through it on their own or with a partner or group. I’ve provided narration throughout to guide them. (If you do this as a whole class, feel free to turn off the sound so you can lead your kids through it instead of me, if you’d like!)
This will be the last newsletter of 2022. I hope you have a wonderful, restful winter break. I’ll see you back in your inbox January 11!
